Two weeks of work have passed... been busy... remedials, CCA and i'm 2nd-in-charge for the upcoming CNY celebrations... and surprise surprise, i haven't taken any MC yet, lol... guess i'm trying to adjust my mentality to prepare myself for the heavier workload when my unisim studies start in another week's time... also have to save up my "unofficial leave" for future use... kekeke...

Next holiday is still a month away... so near yet so far... the wait for holidays is always agonizing... plus the different airlines/travel websites are having so many promotions lately, makes me more gianz for my next trip...

Blog 发霉 lah ! Sorry sorry *does the soli soli dance* so long nv blog...

1st up... wish all a happy new year... may all your new year resolutions come true, hope mine come true too :)

Today's the last day of the dec hols, sch starts tmr so feeling abit emo... it's like having the timer reset and having to go thru all the shit all over again... well... can only hope everything goes smoothly this year... looking forward to the next holidays oredi...

I'm not really the target or goal-setting type of person... but just a few simple "new year resolutions" just for the fun of it...

1) Lots of long weekends this year... so aiming for at least 4 trips this year... maybe 2 long ones during the June & Dec hols, plus a few short ones within SEA...

2) Shopping List - new laptop, new handphone (btw, i just bought a new camera - Canon digital IXUS 120IS, so can strike that off my list)

3) Pass ALL my modules for my unisim part-time studies (not just for this year ba, hopefully I dun flunk any for my whole course)

Ok... enuff "resolutions" for now... don't be greedy set too many, if not never achieve target beri sad de...

One last thing... for the start of sch tmr, i juz wana shout !#$%^&*+?~abcxyz !!!

Ok... I'm constantly having problems with my blog, facebook & hotmail... duno wat's wrong with the internet recently...

Anyway, juz some updates about the period "missing" from my blog... I went to Bangkok for my June holidays... originally going to Phuket Banyan Tree Resort as well but that got called off due to the H1N1 outbreak... well... I didn't really enjoy the Bangkok trip that much, expected since I'm not a shopping person... but I still managed to buy a dozen shirts there so not bad, dun nid to buy any more shirts for this year liao (maybe the next as well)...

Currently enjoying the Sept one-week holidays... but abit sad coz didn't manage to go anywhere abroad... have to go back school for remedials from Monday to Wednesday so only left 4 days, too short to go for trip to anywhere nice... oh well... I'll juz save the money to enjoy more for my year-end trip...

Ah yes... my year-end trip... I'm going to Tokyo ! Yay ! My favourite Japan... although din manage to go Hokkaido (again) as planned... but "no fish have prawn oso good" lah... mai hiam liao...

Paiseh long time never blog le... the past month had been busy... weekends full of activities, which is a good thing (not for the wallet thou)... tis month oso will be busy, but with work, which is bad... the coming week is oral week so i guess have to stay late in school everyday (ultimate SIANZ)... lesson observation coming oso... then after that is SA1 le which means lots of marking... grand finale - file checking, which is my worst worklife nightmare... gosh, i hate april & may... weather so hot somemore... looking forward to June holidays...

I'll be back to more regular blogging after tis "difficult period"... stay tuned...

今天的心情灰灰的。。。有点空虚。。。有点寂寞。假期很快就要过去了。。。这个假期过得很无聊。。。唉。。。又浪费了一个宝贵的假期。。。

刚才在闲逛的时候，看到一群青少年（应该是中学生吧），在游戏机中心玩着跳舞机消磨时间。。。三五好友聚在一起，嘻嘻哈哈。。。不禁让我怀念起以前念书的日子。。。

回想当年。。。那一段无拘无束的日子。。。做了许多疯狂的事。。。有些很可笑，有些很无聊，但都同样令人难忘。。。

还记得以前放学后，因为不想回家，但又想不到事情做的时候，我们几个猪朋狗友可以无聊到在巴士车站随便跳上一辆巴士，不管它开往何处，我们就当作是“游车河”，在车上讲“鸟话”，就这样消磨了一个下午的时间。。。当一群志趣相投的好友在一起的时候，时间总是过得特别快。。。

渐渐的。。。大家都长大了。。。各自开始有了属于自己的生活。。。工作了，拍拖了，结婚了。。。大家走的路越来越不一样了。。。

也因为长大了，变成了“成年人”。。。身上的枷锁多了，肩上的担子重了，人的思想也改变了。。。那些曾经的年少轻狂消失了，那些曾经的放荡不羁没有了，那些曾经的不顾后果不见了。。。人也变得越来越“现实”了。。。

“成年人”不管做什么，考虑什么事，都离不开“时间”，“钱”和“意义”。。。

我曾经是个很主动的人（虽然不像）。。。我会主动约朋友，主动安排聚会和活动，因为我喜欢那种一群好朋友聚在一起的感觉，而且如果我安排的活动能让朋友开心或喜欢，那是一种满足感。。。

可是。。。渐渐的。。。我忘了从什么时候开始（应该是变成“成年人”以后吧），我变成了一个很被动，很消极的人。。。我现在是那种“有人约我，我就赴约，没人约我，我就过自己的生活”的人。

为什么会这样？因为我早已厌倦了被人拒绝，厌倦了听人家诸多借口，更厌倦了那种好像是“我在求你跟我出去”的感觉。。。

“我最近很忙”，“很多事情要做”，“我很穷啊，没有钱” 等等等。。。

没有时间？可能你真是一个大忙人，贵人事忙，而我这种小人物是没有办法了解的。。。一年三百六十五天，一天二十四小时，真的有这么忙吗？很多人不是没有时间，而是不愿意拨出时间来做一些他们认为“没意义”的事。。。

没有钱？拜托。。。以前身为“穷学生”，身无分文也不是可以过得很开心。。。现在都市人的问题就是什么东西都和钱挂钩，潜意识中已经认为“快乐”是“钱”买来的。。。最痛恨的就是那些薪水赚得比我多（还多很多），却一整天在抱怨钱不够用的人。。。come on 。。。我又不是要你拿出个一百几十万来买公寓。。。只是吃顿饭，就算吃顿好的，奢侈一点的，也花不到你一百块。。。就算我主办最贵的活动，例如找你出国，最多最多几千元（再贵一些我自己也不舍得），有必要一直抱怨说“So expensive!”吗？尤其是当你一个月赚五六千块钱，买LV从不手软的时候。。。（Yes girl, I’m toking about you… Y… O… U… dun doubt it… LOL）

惨了。。。我越来越觉得自己快变成一个糟老头了。。。越来越爱发牢骚。。。

昨天和朋友聊天，聊到说“我已经习惯一个人了”，她对我说：“你的situation 很 dangerous, when you 习惯一个人 too long, you will in the end end up 一个人的。” 虽然她的华文表达能力有待加强 (haha)，但一言惊醒梦中人，其实我也懂这个道理，不过可能单身太久了，所以有点麻木了。

Painball's fun... but also damn tiring... each game only lasted around 3-4 minutes (we had 4 games)... it may sound beri short but the intensity & pace of the game is super physically demanding... that's me all burned-out & resting after the game...

In conclusion... paintball... highly recommended... die-die-must-try... will definitely go again some other time... but the first criteria is that u must be able to find enuff kakis who are into extreme physical sports... beri nice group activity...

Darn... caught a cold... recently weather beri bad 忽冷忽热... plus caught in the rain...

Although I am well-known for taking MC whenever I feel like it, I am actually quite reluctant about taking MC tmr... 1stly becoz I've reached my "quota" for term 1 (3 days liao), 2ndly becoz hols is coming soon (next week)... I'll try to "dong" for next few days & hopefully everything will be fine when hols start...

Not going anywhere YET for tis march hols... which is quite sad... originally planned to join my fren's frenz to go bali de... but in the end never go coz the price is quite bohua... they actually have to pay close to 700 bucks just for the air tix + lodging alone BEFORE expenses... i think the whole trip may add up to 1k in total... who would pay 1k to go BALI? well... they would... but i won't... hmm... i'll try to figure out some place to go soon or juz end up rotting in sg...

CNY BRC Gathering

Had an army buddies' gathering at KH's place yest... loads of fun & laughter... we miss the good old army days...

What does a bunch of army buddies do on a CNY gathering? Lots of gambling, of course... Mahjong, Texas Hold-Em, Blackjack, Bingo... KH even had the casino-style gambling apparatus (pro de loh)... the whole place looked like a gambling den...

Yesterday's battle results:
Mahjong: +$80
Texas Hold-Em: +$75
Bingo: -$30
Total: +$125

Not bad... anyway CNY still not over... will tally total winnings on lunar 15th... duno whether I'm on winning streak or my mahjong skills improve... only lost once or twice since last November... I won back my Hong Kong trip + Ah Yat Abalone liao... hopefully it's a sign of good things to come in 2009...

Since CNY... I hereby wish all of u...

Crazy Friday

Went to Ah Yat Abalone at Allson Hotel yesterday... selected the cheapest set meal which comes at a "modest" price of $60++ for myself... total bill at the end of the day for 5 of us = around $484... well... it was more for the experience coz this is not the kind of meal one like me can afford often... we all felt it's not really worth the price... we weren't even full at the end of the meal...

The abalone wasn't spectacular, it's small and in fact, I tot it tasted like the mushroom that was served along with it (the texture was similar & becoz abalone by itself has no taste, depends entirely on the sauce which the mushroom was covered in as well)... the buddha-jump-over-the-wall fell below expectations coz when served, it looked a far fetch from the picture in the menu... there's a fried fish fillet which tasted a tad too salty... the dessert 杨枝甘露 (well u can find better tasting ones at those dessert shops)...

Ok... overall I'm not saying it's bad... maybe our expectations were too high coz of its reputation... maybe we just duno how to appreciate abalone... but our verdict is that it's not value-for-money... well one good thing is that they give a $50 voucher for every $200 spent so we got a $100 voucher at the end of the day... but i doubt we'll be returning anytime soon...

After dinner, it's time for cheonging... well wat am i expecting when i'm out with a group of cheongsters on a Friday nite... we 1st took a slow walk to clark quay where we had beer at Brewerks... had a Tower of Golden Ale & buffalo wings... pls pls pls... dun ever order the buffalo wings at Brewerks... it's the worst we ever ate... it actually tasted so sour we tot it's spoilt... we even asked the waiter to confirm if it's supposed to taste tat way... my frenz loved the Golden Ale but it's too whimsy for some (bunch of 酒鬼s)... I'm not an alcohol guy so no comments on the beer... Brewerks closed at 1am which was way TOO early for cheongsters... plus my frenz haven't quenched their 酒瘾... so onto next spot...

Went to tis place called eM at Gallery Hotel... second round of drinks... we're all abit high at tis point in time... so time for some crazy antics... started posing & taking photos in all sorts of flirting, seducing, compromising positions... dun think too far... we were not trying to re-enact the Edison Chen incident... but the photos were damn scandalous (lol!)... had a crazy fun time... we all tink that we'll regret wat we did when we recover from our high-ness the next morning... hahaha... but the photos beta dun land in the wrong hands... one gal was married, another ROM liao so dun wana cause any misunderstanding... it's all juz for plain fun, dun wana get ambushed by some jealous husband by mistake...

3am... even eM closing liao... so we got "driven away" again... we were so high at tis point that we actually thinking of going KTV to continue our crazy fun... but one gal dun like to sing, one guy gtg 拜年next mornie, I 老人家felt like sleeping liao... so in the end nv go... finally 打道回府...

We agreed to go for our planned KTV next Friday... expect lots more of crazy Friday nitez to come... gosh... I suddenly feel so young again...

昨夜我又梦到你了。。。醒来时热泪满眶，只能躲在被窝下，等到夺眶而出的泪水停止才起床。。。本以为已经遗忘，想不到不经意的想起，感觉还是如此强烈。

Sianz... Hong Kong kana avian flu again... no fresh chicken for next 3 weeks... means it'll affect my hk trip... why always kana when i going? Last time go hk oso kana no fresh eggs, tis time worse, no fresh chicken... hope it dun affect 深井烧鹅 , i purposely went to find out the address so can go try the renowned 烧鹅... if dun have, i surely damn sad sia...

Since on the topic of chicken & egg, share with u something interesting... everyone noes the chicken & egg question... as in which comes 1st... lots of debate about it, always no definite answer... but now there's an answer... read tis from the newspapers the other day... the EGG comes 1st... why? simple... we all (or most of us) know that birds evolved from dinosaurs... so the explanation is that the chicken evolved from an egg-laying dinosaur/creature... so the egg appeared before the chicken... but to be exact & fair to the chicken, the eggs before the chicken were not really 鸡蛋... so there's still some room for dispute here... if u ask 先有鸡还是先有蛋？then is 先有蛋 , but if the question is 先有鸡还是先有鸡蛋？then ... ... ... ?

By the way, forgot to mention... I'm back from my taiwan trip (duh... abit slow... should mention tis in front of post)... well... nothing much WORTH mentioning... the trip overall quite disappointing... juz a comment or serious advice to all - if going taiwan, DON'T go for package tour... go free & easy... I'll see if I have time/mood next few days to post details/photos of the trip... but dun expect much... coz realli nothing much... :(

Food Review - Kyomomoyama

Went for dinner at this place called Kyomomoyama or 京桃山 at Central... initially never intended to eat there coz the online reviews of the place are very bad... was looking around for a dinner place at Central when the 30% off all food items sign at its doorstep attracted us... well... I tot since I tried most of the restaurants at Central, a 30% discount should earn it a chance for me to give it a try...

Went in, looked thru menu... mostly set meals... all price tags start from above 20 bucks... not cheap... the ala carte main courses (rice bowls, udon etc) cost the same so might as well go for the set meals... ordered a unagi & sukiyaki gozen... sounds good...

Turned out the reviews were right... service was slow, we waited more than 15 min for our food (biz was not really that good, some empty tables & some of the staff were juz standing around)... food came... unagi was ok (u can't go wrong with unagi)... only 3 miserable slices of beef in my sukiyaki... the sushi my fren ordered looked & tasted juz like those u can get at neighbourhood jap restaurants (sushi tei, ramen ten etc)... after 30% discount plus some card discount, still cost around $22 per pax... not worth it...

Overall verdict... slow service, substandard food, overpriced price tags... not worth a second visit... oh why didn't i juz stick to Marutama Ramen* instead?

Finally it's the holidays... althou not realli "fully" holiday yet, still have to come back school from monday to wed (tmr)... in fact, i'm now blogging in school... nevertheless, i'm still happy & glad holidays are here...

Last friday, to celebrate the last day of school, me & some frenz (actually colleagues from sch but colleagues sound too distant, I wouldn't go out with mere "colleagues", if u get wat i mean) went out... first to The Line buffet dinner at Shangri La hotel... it cost about 75 bucks per pax AFTER discount (some card, forget which bank le)... quite costly hor... but holiday good mood ma, ok to splurge once in a while... but the place not realli spectacular loh, maybe our expectations were too high le, coz it's supposedly quite famous & highly-rated... the layout & design of the place quite foodcourt style loh, plus it's quite crowded with people so realli feels like foodcourt... not wat u would expect from a 5-star hotel like Shangri La... I expected a classy stylish ambience... food variety not bad, quite a broad range but compared to the wide varieties of buffets nowadays, nothing special actually... the seafood was nice, fresh & sweet... the crab is a die-die-must-try... dessert was good too, esp the chocolate mousse...

After dinner, we went to tis ktv-pub called 酒坛林 at carpenter street... i noe the name sounds sleazy but dun be mistaken, it's not a lap-sup-bar & we were not going for some "special activities"... there were females among us... actually the place more ktv than a pub lah... it's the hall-type of ktv where u pass the mic around, but they earn money from selling alcohol... the people there were more interested in the alcohol than the singing thou, probably explains why it's called 酒坛林... one fren can't drink coz he's driving, one fren can't sing becoz well, she juz can't sing (lol)... another had to go off coz she's having another party at Helipad (a surprise hen's party organised by her sis, Congratz Peishan!)... so after a while, it got boring & we left around 2, abit early for a chionging friday nite, but well... I'm not realli a chiongster anyway...

And wat's a holiday without MAHJONG !? Played a couple of rounds on Sat, won back my expenses for Friday (yay!)... and some BREAKING NEWS to share with u (if u still don't noe)... *drums roll*... my house is open for mahjong! finally after so many years, had my first (& only) session at my own place 2 weeks back... due to tremendous support from my father & my 先斩后奏 (i actually invited my frenz over for mj b4 I buy my mj set, knowing my mum is the type who can't be rude to guests), my mum finally relented... had an enjoyable session (maybe only for me coz I won, woon was looking realli glum over his biggest career loss)... looking forward to more sessions in future... if u are interested, juz let me noe... always welcomed to a "table-warming" session at my place...

Overseas Notification: I'll be away to Taiwan from 1st to 9th December, Hong Kong from 14th to 18th December. My hp no auto-roam so I'll be uncontactable during tis periods.

This election campaign has really dragged on for a long time... from Obama vs Hillary to Obama vs McCain.... the whole process has been entertaining & full of drama... now finally it's come to an end...

Number ONE news! My Hong Kong trip confirm liao! Air tix & hotel all booked... alot of hiccups along the way but luckily everything turned out fine... so my dec holidays is fully packed liao... 1st week go Taiwan, then followed by Hong Kong... come back can get ready for xmas celebrations liao...

Guitar... not much progress... I'm just not artistically-inclined... currently learning my 1st song which is the Birthday song (lol)... still stuck at the 2nd phrase... :(

Food... lots of good food lately... LOTS... have been going out with my colleagues almost everyday after school to different places for lunch... they are oso food gourmets who know many good food places... it's nice to have colleagues who share a common interest (in food)... bad thing is weight gain & money loss...

It's the end of Olympics today... juz watched the closing ceremony, not realli wat I expected (something spectacular like the opening)... but the last day of competition was exciting... I watched the basketball, handball & water polo finals... today was tv & marking day for me... at home the entire day watching telecasts of the Olympics & marking CA papers...

Good news... other than Taiwan trip confirmed & booked in Dec, we found enuff kakis for the Tasmania trip! Yay! But sad thing is not going anywhere in Sept coz the toopid sch set the remedial classes on Thurs & Fri, right smack in the middle of the Sept hols... but I doubt can find kakis anyway so suan le...

Oh ya... I starting my guitar lessons tmr... no, there's nothing wrong with your eyes... I am picking up guitar, signed up for classes at Music Butterfly or 海蝶 should sound more familiar for u...

One more week to go to Sept Hols... 加油！

Back After National Day

Ok... I'm back... long time no blog le so beta post something b4 my blog grows cobweb...

Went NATAS the other day... booked a package tour to Taiwan in December... ok u may be thinking go Taiwan why nid package tour, go F & E beta... well... we actually originally intended to go New Zealand or Japan de... but the prices for tis 2 destinations exceeded the budgets for some so had to change plans... and book F & E at NATAS is bohua de, more exp... so nvm loh, package tour lah... anyway get to go overseas I happy le... and we chose the package tat includes 阿里山 and 六福村 so suits me fine...

Currently in the process of planning another trip to Tasmania... nice place... but main problem is hard to find kakis... we'll see how abt tat... but I have backup plan... my fren jio go Hainan Island in China... tat one is dirt-cheap so should be going as well if my fren side org successful...

National Day long weekend ending... going back to school tmr... but short week la... going for PSLE Oral on Thursday & Friday... didn't watch the NDP parade again tis year... totally not interested... haha... went to catch movie "Journey To The Centre Of The Earth" on National Day...

Olympics fever... been catching quite abit of the Olympics tis weekend... quite exciting leh... many records been broken... and the opening ceremony nice sia... if onli our NDP parade is lidat...

Finally got to watch both Red Cliff & Hellboy 2... but as usual, expectations too high = disappointment... I not saying the movies not good but juz NOT AS GOOD AS EXPECTED...

Red Cliff drew mixed reviews from different people... some find it good, some tink it's crap... well... I tink it all boils down to wat kind of mentality u are watching it with... it is obviously a commercialized film... script has been edited & elements included to increase the entertainment value... but from the historical point of view, if u are a loyal supporter of 三国演义 or 三国志 and are expecting something like a historical classic, then tis movie is quite crappy... for me personally, I juz treat it like any other normal movie... quite entertaining, I like war movies... and it's definitely WAY BETTER than the previous 三国 movie by Andy Lau, tat one is really wat I would describe as TOTAL CRAP... but if there's one thing I realli dun like abt Red Cliff, it's how Zhuge Liang is portrayed in the movie... initially, I am oredi quite repelled by the idea of Takeshi Kaneshiro taking the role... Zhuge Liang is a total joker or worse, clown in the movie... tink the real Zhuge Liang will turn in his grave sia...

Nothing much to say abt Hellboy 2... juz another normal superhero movie... the parts abt Hellboy & the fish-guy being all love-struck are cheesy at times... but I dun regret watching the show la... and I will catch the sequel as well (yes, the movie oredi hinted abt a sequel)...

Next up... Batman:The Dark Knight... heard from EVERYONE who watched commenting it's good... so I have high hopes on tis one...

Batam Trip

Yeah! Going to Batam for a short weekend getaway for the National Day long weekend... almost confirm liao... left the ferry tickets nv get onli... the chalet is free so onli pay for ferry plus expenses...

Juz as I was complaining abt finances running low... and exceeding my budget for tis month due to too much good food... I managed to replenish my supplies tis weekend... won abt 300 bucks from mj... lucky... plus tis month's salary juz came in... have bonus somemore, althou a pittance... but every little bit helps...

Aaarrrggghhh... tmr is Monday again... feeling the blues as usual... I hate work...

Supposed to go sleep le... coz gotta wake up early tmr... long weekend is over... doesn't feel beri long thou... haha... juz reach home not long ago... now waiting for hair to dry after shower... mama say cannot go to bed with wet hair, will "头风" de...

Went for dinner buffet juz now at Oriental Mandarin hotel... a place called Melt - The World Cafe... beri nice place... food is good, great variety, nice ambience, superb service... but everything comes at a price... a hefty price of almost 80 bucks... but I still highly recommend the place la... one of the beta buffets I eaten... but onli if u have cash to spare...

I for one dun have much cash to spare sia... been spending too much recently... esp on food... my frenz commented tat I grew fatter... belly getting real obvious... definitely la... all the good food... muz store somewhere rite... watching many movies too... nowadays movies damn exp, the drinks & snacks they sell oso exp loh... then juz settled the bills (handphone, internet plus the toopid income tax... kaoz earn so little liao still got tax)...

Lucky tis month have the GST rebate (but why I onli 200? My frenz getting 250 or more leh... gah-men cheat me $50 ah?)... and won some $$$ from my mj sessions... so can lessen the impact abit... but still... haiz... 钱不够用...

Long Weekend

Tmr is Youth Day... no school... Yay!

Last nite caught the 2am show of Hancock... seldom watch such late timing but since long weekend, nv mind la... I din realli like the show, maybe my expectations too high le ba... but I tink the storyline quite weak...

After movie went for supper (or breakfast?) at the xin wang cafe at kovan... such weird timing still quite alot of ppl sia... sg-reans realli dun like to sleep... reach home at 5 plus in the morning... but my fren driving so have free chauffeur to fetch me around... so np...

Now planning a trip to maybe Batam during the coming National Day long weekend... my fren have company lobang, can apply for company resort so lodging may be free... so good deal so cun miss the chance... but from now till then is a long & busy month...

Recently appetite extremely good... duno why... cun stop eating, get hungry real fast... been going places to find good food... but mainly becoz have fren driving so can go far & usually hard-to-go places... some of my frenz planning to buy or juz bought car recently... nowadays having a car is a huge financial burden sia... fuel prices sky-high... ERP, road tax... it's juz crazy... having a car juz seems so out-of-my-league... I'll juz stick to taking cab ba...

Myths About The Teaching Profession

Ok... I noe I grumble alot but at least I'm not the only one who dread going back to work... come online open up msn can straight away see (from their msn nick/msg) most of my teacher frenz are oso getting all moody & apprehensive abt the holidays ending & going back to the hectic school life...

Really... u realli have to be in the profession to understand the feeling... outsiders often envy us for the "high pay", "short working hours" & "long holidays" etc... total bullsh*t...

Number 1 Myth...

Teaching is a high-paying job... my ass... ya the starting salary (considering a fresh uni/poly grad) is not bad but its only purpose is to serve as a lure to attract people into the profession... after u take the bait, u'll soon realize tat the private sector actually pays beta, MUCH beta... why? let me explain... the yearly salary increment for civil sector is more or less fixed... for me, my yearly increment is less than 100 bucks... utterly miserable & pathetic... even for uni grad, only abt 200... so u see, despite the "higher" starting pay, those in the private sector can catch up & overtake easily within a few years...

And dun forget the bonus... in a good economic year, getting a 2.25 month bonus (inclusive of 13th mth somemore) is considered beri good for civil sector le... not like private sector, u can read in papers tat some companies can give like 6-12 mths, or even up to 24 mths! (it's true)... imagine getting 2 years' salary at one shot for bonus, it's juz crazy... ok maybe u'll say not all companies so good... but it's still demoralizing during gatherings when I hear my fren say "My company not doing well tis year, bonus ONLY 3 months"... WTF?!

Myth Num 2...

Short working hours? Ok... wat I can say is... "officially" the hours are short... I mean... school hours for one session are around 5-6 hours (for my sch is from abt 0725-1255)... but tat is juz "official" for the kids leh... other than normal classroom teaching, we still have marking, lesson plans, prepare worksheets, CCAs, meetings, courses, workshops, sharing sessions, school admin etc etc... the list continues... even some things 有的没的 oso we have to do... for example, I'm in charge of sch pantry (refilling the biscuits, coffee etc)... if u tink tat's bad, I have colleague in charge of toilet... toopid rite?

So due to the immense workload, it's beri common for teachers to bring their work home... some even have to work thru the wee hours... weekends burnt is normal...

Myth 3...

Long school holiday? dun always assume realli have holiday... like my fren who kana one week of remedial plus 2 weeks of sch camp for a 4-week holiday... sad hor...

Even for the "luckier" ones like me (only kana 1st week), school holidays for teachers is super bohua de... coz it's always peak period... going abroad can cost twice as much as usual... and u cun choose your holiday... we cun take leave (other than the unofficial leave called MC)... and oso hard to find travel kakis coz other people wun wana bear the extra costs...

In conclusion (post too long le, time to conclude)... juz ask yourselves a simple Q... if teaching is realli such a bed of roses like some people imagine it to be, why is the turnover rate so high? Have u ever wondered why MOE is recruiting people all year round (the ads & recruitment exercises nv stop)? Nid so many teachers meh? No, it's becoz so many quitting/retiring tat nid to replace with fresh blood constantly... Bed of roses? Maybe juz the thorns part...

Saturday nite juz passed (past 12, is sunday le)... no programs... stayed at home watch tv... abit sad sia... nobody to tok to, nowhere to go, nothing to do... damn no life sia...

A fren once suggested tat I pick up a hobby or go for some course to learn something... but for someone like me who do anything oso 三分钟热度, nothing realli interests me for long...

Me yest watch Kungfu Panda... wrote its review tis morning (refer to previous post)... rite after tat went to catch Zohan (in short, title too long to keep typing)... and here I am... fresh review (rite from the oven)... super efficient me...

Great movie... even funnier than Panda... but different type of humour la... expect lots of adult humour, dirty jokes, naked butts, obscene actions & humongous erections... u can even describe the movie (or Zohan himself) as 下流... the movie may be too crude & gross for some people's tastes so I wun say all would like it... but I personally LOVE it !!!

Ok... I wun reveal anything else abt the story here... since most of u haven't watch it yet... it isn't officially open till tmr (I caught the sneak)... juz highly recommended by me if u are looking for a good laugh... and not offended by obscenity...

Kungfu Panda

Highly entertaining show... good humour, cool action, interesting storyline... it caters to both animation & martial arts lovers... for those of u who dun like animations (thinking it's too kiddish), dun worry... Kungfu Panda is more along the line of a Japanese anime (tink Naruto), rather than a cartoon... there's a huge difference between animes & cartoons... juz ask the hundreds of thousands of anime lovers out there...

And for those of u who feel tat tis type of show can watch online or wait for dvd, I beg to differ... the movie's action scenes & the background setting/ambience quite cool... u can onli feel them in the cinema... tink watch at home will realli make u feel like watching a mere cartoon le ba...

Many "good shows" coming up tis week... "good" in the sense tat I want to watch (haha)... U Don't Mess With The Zohan, Get Smart, The Incredible Hulk (open last week liao, but reviews from frenz not beri good so push back on my list)... waiting eagerly for Hellboy 2: The Golden Army... the trailer looks cool... duno when open thou...

Start Of June Holidays

Ya... for me, the holidays onli juz started... althou it "officially" started one week ago liao... but 1st week was totally burnt... meetings, remedials, work review... in fact I was busier than my normal working days... but I'm in no position to complain la... I have frenz who kana worse...

As usual, I always try to make full use of my holidays and make my schedule as packed with programs as possible... but nowadays beri hard leh... main problem cun find kakis... onli teachers are having holidays... the rest all working... then the "teacher frenz" are either going away for holiday... or complaining no money... or I keep meeting them oso sianz (oops)...

Main highlight of tis holiday is the Hokkaido trip... but come to tink of it, tis holiday super short sia... 1st week burn... then Hokkaido come back tat week's Friday is the staff meeting liao... super sianz... count count actual holidays is less than 3 weeks...

So my frenz out there... have any interesting activities... rem to jio me hor... I'm onz for almost anything de... tat's how bored I am... hahaha...

Wat does it mean when a gal lets everyone know she has a boyfriend except u? Even to the extent of hiding it from u?

If someone is attached but still shows interest in u, wat would u do? I always believe tat “她今天可以为了你离开他，她改天也可以为了别人离开你。” But... wat if u are really interested in her as well? And seriously speaking, looking from a different & more open perspective, there realli isn't anything wrong in moving on if u realli met someone more suitable or beta, rite? (or maybe I'm juz trying to find a reason to justify everything)

Is a guy acting like a bastard if he still makes his move despite knowing tat the gal is attached? If I'm the gal's boyfriend, of course I tink the guy's a jerk... but from a neutral(?) point of view, it's juz fair competition, rite?

Wedding Maths

Went to Kaikok's wedding yesterday... a simple but beri sweet wedding... can see the effort put into the event... he even made a flash telling the story of how the couple met & fell in love... it's not those type simple flash but with motion, facial expressions, music, everything de... beri pro... I heard he spent ONE WHOLE YEAR finishing it... plus they have video tribute to the parents as well... and another video made by their frenz showing their courting process (it's REAL-LIFE acting de, as in the frenz actually role-play KK & his wife)... wat a nice wedding gift...

Then can see they spent quite a big sum of money on the wedding photos & album... can tell from the num of photos & the quality... the food was quite good... lots of seafood (lobster, prawns, scallops, garoupa)... their door gift for the guests is a small saucer dish with the picture of a cartoon couple in traditonal chinese wedding costumes (beri cute)...

Seeing people get married... the topic for the nite between the guys of course revolved around marriage... some of them have upcoming wedding plans le... we were oso discussing the amount of money needed for marriage... unavoidable issue... buy flat, renovation, wedding package, honeymoon, everything adds up to a big lump sum...

Let's do some rough calculations here...

Starting off with a flat... beri impt... & one of the biggest expenses in a marriage... unless u stay with parents... take a four or five room flat for example, 10% downpayment (5% for civil servants)... after minus your cpf, u still nid to fork out around 5-10k cash (on average)... renovations w/o furniture around 20-50k (depends on your standard)... furniture we dun count 1st (up to individual)...

Wedding rings & wedding bands... have difference de ah... depends wat u buy (how big your diamond is, hahaha)... I give rough figure around 5-8k...

Wedding package... market rate around 3-4k for BASIC package... the wedding album will add up to much more after photo selection...

I wun add the wedding dinner & ROM fees here... coz USUALLY will get back from the angbaos de... unless u invite all the stingy "yao guis"... or unfortunate incident like angbaos lost (happened before, it's in the papers)...

Many other charges & expenses... the list goes on & on... u nid to actually start planning the wedding, then more costs keep popping up...

In conclusion, even for a simple wedding (i dun mean void deck or coffeeshop weddings), a couple may need about 40-50k in cash (minimum)... and I haven't even added the honeymoon yet...

No wonder nowadays Singaporeans are getting married later & later (or dun marry at all)... excluding those who dun wana get married due to other factors (high expectations, no confidence in marriage etc), some wana get married but dun have enuff money or juz frightened off by the costs...

So people... moral of the story is... start saving up now... or find a rich partner... hahaha...

Depression? (long post)

No... I dun have depression... at least NOT YET... haha... no lah... not as close to getting as some of my frenz...

But the feeling sux... duno izzit unable to recover from holiday mood... or becoz of the hectic LAST week of sch (i tot last week is supposed to be nua de?)... or becoz of the "kopi sessions"... ya i kana "drink kopi" again, tis time with my RO... who broke to me the "good news" tat i am scheduled for another "kopi session" with the P & VP... here I am, trying to quit coffee... but keep kana-ing the other type of "kopi"... I prefer the old normal type of coffee... haiz...

Now I'm starting to slightly understand wat those suffering from depression or those super-pessimistic people feels... it's like EVERYTHING is not going well for u... like TROUBLE keeps coming your way... the worst things tat u fear will happen ALL happen... is like heaven is leaving u with NO WAY OUT... the whole depressing feeling is juz suffocating sia...

Even trivial things in life... becomes such a big deal during such low periods... for example, I juz had the WORST dinner cooked by my mum in years (or maybe ever)... long beans with bean curd, some vegetarian dish (the flour type with machiem no taste), bittergourd soup (as if feeling bitter no enuff)... aiyo... for all of u who know me, do u tink i can eat these? my mum definitely knows... duno wat drove her to cook up tis menu... lost my appetite... din even finish one-quarter of my plate of rice... get my point when I said felt like EVERYTHING not going well for u?

Since my school days, my frenz have been admiring me for my positive attitude in life... machiem always so happy-go-lucky & stress-free... machiem like I can handle stress beri well... but guess it's the opposite ba... it's practically becoz I cun handle stress tat I choose not to face it most of the time... but when faced with situations where I cun avoid the problems & stress (like now), I am the type tat breaks down most easily...

During the KL trip, I realli enjoyed myself... basking myself in the crap & nonsense of my buddies... but I found myself unable to smile & laff at some of their silly antics & jokes... even some of them commented "Jiawei nowadays so serious liao..." haiz... I dun wana be serious... I dun like being serious... it's juz not me... I always want to retain tat childish innocence, no matter how old I become... coz kids are always happier than adults... they are happy over simple things while adults are nv contented & always stressed over EVERYTHING... but slowly, I find myself losing tat simplicity & innocence... maybe forced by society, by work, by adulthood itself...

Sorry for my long blabbering... and thanks for your patience in reading tis long post (not many will read everything, I guess)... but I tink pouring out all your woes is beta than keeping them all trapped inside your heart...

Suan le... unhappy stuff will pass (I believe)... lucky tmr is the last day of school le (althou next week still have remedial)... I cun imagine if I kana all tis sh*t at the beginning of the term... so for now, grumble finish, time to move on, look forward to more positive things... sat meeting the NIE "sisters"... long time no see them liao... sat evening Kaikok's wedding, can meet up with the guys (army buds) again, in full strength (almost) tis time... hokkaido trip coming soon (!)...

I must realli pamper myself tis June holidays... spas & massages is a must-have... will splurge & totally enjoy myself in hokkaido... maybe I'll get myself a PSP (been considering for quite some time)... maybe I'll try to organize another trip before holiday ends, a short one if possible... anyone interested?

Back From KL, Last Week Of School

Ok... one more week to go before june holidays... ganbatte! But tis week realli siong sia... two workshops... meet-the-parents... file-checking... why cun they leave us alone for the last week?

Juz came back from KL yesterday... the trip was fun... with lots of crap & nonsense from the guys... hahaha... but the standard of food in KL seems to have dropped... din buy much, juz a shirt & a pair of adidas shorts... mostly eating & roaming around in KL area...

Din take any photos tis time round... coz noone (all 7 of us) brought camera... pathetic hor... but tat's the case with all guys lah... we all same mentality... nothing much to shoot in Malaysia... bring camera for wat? still risk kana stolen... we not like gals everything everywhere oso like to take photos...

Still feeling tired from having to go back work rite after holiday... I'll blog more abt the KL trip tis weekend when holiday begins...

My coffee intake has increased since starting work... bobian... waking up at six every morning is a torture... if nv take coffee, will become like a zombie by afternoon... if gotta stay back after school to do work, worse...

The wait for the june holidays felt like eternity... so when my fren jio me to go overseas for the vesak day long weekend, of course i gladly agree...

And guess wat? We sort of confirm the idea on sat & started jioing people... then on sunday, the trip is booked & confirmed! Efficient sia... haha...

Going KL plus Genting... for 3D2N... 6 army buddies... a bit like a repeat of the trip we had during our army days... but company slightly different la... hopefully it will be as fun as the last time (or beta)...

Same class... actually the kids were "relatively well-behaved" le... they were actually trying to ask me how to do a piece of work I gave them to do... but being impatient attention-seekers, they cun wait for me to go to them one-by-one & began shouting "Teacher! Teacher!" to get my attention... as a result, classroom sounded like a market... and suay suay (again), tis time the vice-principal was making her rounds... she came into the classroom and scolded the kids... and when she saw the 4 naughtiest students I "quarantined" at one corner of the classroom, she wanted an explanation, which I gave and to which she rebutted, "I don't understand your logic in putting them together. I think u may need to talk to me about this." Double die... marked by both P & VP le...

Thursday
The class was super well-behaved today... I can only use the word "amazing" to describe... but suay suay, NOBODY was making any rounds... then after school, was called to the VP's office to "drink coffee" for yesterday's incident... she sounded polite but she's criticizing my way of managing the classroom... her concluding statement "I'll speak to your RO about this matter because classroom management is your area of concern." Die x3... RO involved as well... now it's like I'm been marked by every high-ranking personnel in the school...

Friday (today)
Fell sick again... duno due to the flu virus spreading around in the office or due to stress or both... then suay suay (suay until i oso sianz le), an over-anxious parent called the school to want back all her daughter's work to study for coming exams coz the kid is on mc... then becoz I'm on MC, the VP actually went to ransack thru my table & all my stuff to find the files... then she called me to question me about so many things... why nv give back the files? where's the compos? blah blah blah... then I got the parent's num & called her to settle the matter myself...

Here's the scenario... she said she's concerned abt her daughter's work and wanted to get back her compos to see her standard... I explained to her I'm on mc and unable to pass her the stuff today... sensing her concern & anxiety, I OFFERED to go back to school tmr (non-working day hor) and even deliver the stuff to her home since she's staying nearby as I feel bad abt making her make additional trip to sch (she came once today)... can see how much effort I'm making to try & help her?

But guess wat? The VP called me again... she reprimanded me for "jumping the gun"(in her words)... said I shouldn't offer to pass her the things tmr, can give on monday... stating tat the parent COMPLAINED to her tat I gave her the impression tat I'm NOT REALLY THAT SICK... WTF?! Here I am, trying to do my best to help, yet tis is wat I get in return?

Many people are always asking whether I'll continue in tis job after my bond... honestly, I duno & it's still too early to make a decision... afterall, I'm still in my 1st year... however, at tis moment in time, I can only say I'm feeling abit 心灰意冷... even if I'm staying in tis job, dun tink I'll be staying in the same school for long... coz after getting in the bad books of so many high-ranking key personnels in the school, 接下来的日子不好过啊！

Full-Time? Part-Time?

Been planning to go pursue a degree... coz in a place like singapore, qualifications do matter... ALOT... it's not fair... but tat's the harsh reality we have to face... we can do the same amt of shit... i mean work... or even more... but the salary difference between a uni-grad & a diploma holder is always there, no matter how much u do... they get higher paychecks, more bonuses, faster promotions & greater pay increments... the salary gap juz gets bigger & bigger as time goes by...

Originally intended to take a full-time course after maybe one year of service... but many restrictions sia... money is an issue... coz study full-time means no work, no pay... plus have to pay school fees... which can add up to a significant sum... I dun wish to end up having no savings when I reach 30... which is realli quite pathetic...

Another problem... when I told my RO (reporting officer) about my plans to go study... he gave me the "standard talk" that my application would be subjected to school approval, tat due to manpower shortage, I may have to wait a few years for my chance blah blah blah... of course I dun fall for such bullshit... honestly, if I dun get approval, I'll juz ask for transfer... me attitude de ma... haha...

But then again, if study full-time... the courses mostly last like 3, 4 years... then graduate 30+ draw fresh grad's pay... duno how long then can cover back the school fees sia...

Then today, heard someone say tat MOE now offers up to 40% subsidy on school fees for part-time courses in uni-SIM... sounds like a feasible option to me... will take some time to look thru the courses available & make my choice... num of lessons per week is a crucial factor... I cun go for those 4-time a week classes after work... will die de... the main reason why I wanted to go full-time in the 1st place is coz I worried I cun handle the hectic schedule of work & studies combined... I nuah de ma... remember?

International Gourmet Weekend

Tis past Friday was Good Friday... which is a public holiday... so had a long weekend... Good Friday is GOOD... haha... why can't they also have Good Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday, Sunday, Good Week, Good Month etc?

Went to 木船民歌餐厅 on Friday... for those of u who duno, it juz moved to Grandlink Square at Paya Lebar... used to be at Clarke Quay area... they serve vietnamese food... which is not bad... plus they have singers who will sing your dedications... however, the new place is quite "lok kok"... and u may wana wait some time b4 visiting... they are obviously still in the midst of moving & things are in a mess... I waited more than 3 hours for my food & they still got my order wrong somemore... but the 老板娘 recognised their mistake & din charge me for the food plus treat me to a free drink... good service... so I was a free-loader tat day... except the $8 entry fee (inclusive of 1 free drink)...

Watched 10000 BC yesterday at cineleisure... had lunch at the 兴旺茶餐厅... hong kong cafe food... average standard... the movie is ok, not spectacular but tis type of show have to watch at cinema de... so no regret...

Yesterday dinner was at a italian restaurant at Prinsep Place (opp Paradiz Centre)... forgot the name of the restaurant (some italian name beginning with T)... food-wise some good some average... their seafood soup can be a main course due to its huge portion of seafood (mostly clams)... quite worthwhile for $10.90 (at 1st we tot it's quite exp for a soup but when we saw the amt of ingredients in it, changed our minds)... the pizzas were good, pastas not bad, their grilled meat not tat good (it's realli juz plain grilled meat, w/o much seasoning), dessert juz go for the tiramisu, the rest sux... dining at the restaurant will set u back around $40 plus per pax, which i tink is quite ok for an italian restaurant... we were initially worried the bill might end up like more than 100 per pax...

Hokkaido trip (more or less) confirmed... redang met with some hiccups... apparently I may end up sharing a room with 3 guys I duno... the 11-hour bus ride is another turn-off... now abit undecisive whether still wana go anot... hopefully the planning for the year-end trip to New Zealand (or Taiwan) will go smoother...

March Holidays

March one-week holiday coming to an end... back to work tmr... it has been a disappointing week... a precious holiday totally wasted...

Biggest disappointment is tat I nv got to go abroad... since I started working... I aim to be able to go on overseas holiday during EVERY holiday... but tis time round, started planning abit too late... so intended to juz go to malaysia for a short weekend getaway... beta than nothing rite... but tat toopid MSK had to choose the best timing to escape... now the causeway is jammed like F**K... no choice loh... abandon plan...

Then the weather... it's getting really messed up recently... raining cats & dogs for the past week... only started to clear up tis couple of days... holiday mood is dampened... outdoor activities hindered... stuck indoors most of tis week...

Another thing is the work... yes... WORK... alot of people always admire teachers for having so many holidays... they have no idea how much work we have to do during the so-called holidays... holiday is a period of time for us to clear our backlog... coz during school days, the work will juz keep piling up... no matter how fast or how efficient u are, u can never keep up with the rate of work coming in... juz looking at the stacks of compos & test papers yet to be marked is enuff to kill off watever little holiday mood tat's left...

Then yesterday... there's "supposed" to be an army recall/mobilisation... our unit told us tat there will SURELY be one during our last ICT... they even went to so much hassle to ensure tat we get our field pack items ready and tat we got our uniforms sewed (unit logo, sg logo, name tag etc)... everyone from our platoon was waiting at home to be recalled... waited & waited & waited... wasted one whole day sitting at home like an idiot... turned out there was no recall... toopid SAF... wasted my precious Saturday... and the weather was good somemore... gggrrr...

Some things tat I managed to do tis holiday... top on the list... Exercise Reunion was carried out successfully yesterday night... it was a get-together dinner gathering for our army gang (officers, specialists & troopers included)... turnout was the best so far since ORD... and the dinner place was good... River Palace restaurant at Riverview Hotel... it was an ala carte buffet dinner at about $32 per pax after taxes... quite cheap for dinner buffet... and the food was quite nice & to our liking...

I oso managed to go on the Singapore Flyer... for those of u who duno wat it is... it's the gigantic ferry wheel near esplanade... ok lah... nothing spectacular... juz a bigger & taller version of the traditional ferry wheel... juz for experience... but it doesn't come cheap... $29.50 per person... I burnt about 60 bucks for two... heart pain... and take note... do not share a cabin with kids... they will either get realli rowdy due to excitement coz of the height or boredom due to the long ride... totally spoil the mood (esp if for couples, the ferry wheel can be quite romantic, u dun wan to have kids running around or crying)... lucky i was smart & anticipated tis... I let 2 ang-mos behind us join the family in front of us in queue... wise move...

I also got to watch two movies tis week... 'Meet The Spartans' which is (supposed to be) a crap show... and 'Koizora' or 'Sky of Love' which is a nice romance movie... plus my latest order of dvds arrived juz in time... else I wouldn't know wat to do while trapped indoors tis holiday...

Ok... tis post is getting too long... can see I'm really bored at home... back to watching my dvds...

The infamous NUS Sex Survey... a piece of news tat's causing a bit of a hoo-ha recently in sg... other than the MSK escape & Malaysian election results (but these topics are too serious & political for open discussion)...

If u are a mountain tortoise who have totally no idea wat I'm toking abt... a NUS publication recently did a survey where results showed tat 64% of NUS students have sex at least once a week... the findings attracted alot of "wow"s & "what?"s from many singaporeans...

I had wanted to post my comments a few days back when I saw the news article... but was busy & it slipped my mind... until today when I read Jamie Yeo's article in mypaper... and it totally echoes my tots... I absolutely agrees with wat she wrote...

Juz to add on... I seriously tink many singaporeans are over-reacting... or they are juz criticizing for the sake of criticizing ( which is a common sg trait )... sg is a country stuck between Asian conservatism & Western liberalism... singaporeans are always tempted or "gianz" to try certain things but we are carrying the burden of morality, constantly living under the cover of a conservative Asian society...

The truth is... many things are happening around us... but some people still can't accept or choose not to believe wat's going on... alot of issues & topics are taboo or hush-hush... juz mentioning them or openly discussing them gives u the label of being immoral... not to mention admitting to doing them...

In a way... I'm glad NUS did & revealed tis survey... acts as a cold bucket of water to wake up some people's idea... but I am a fair guy... from an objective point of view, tis survey cun realli be taken at face value... firstly, the num of participants is juz 56, which is not a substantial figure to pass judgement... secondly, it was an online survey so anyone could have done the survey... the credibility of the survey remains in doubt... therefore, I dun feel much abt the survey results... juz bemused by the public's reactions...

Haiz... it's one of those "low" days again... both tired & moody...

Had a long & tiring day yesterday... brought a bunch of students to Chinatown from mornie to 2.30pm... then straight away had to bring my soccer boys out for tournament... reach home abt 7pm... wanted to juz go to bed but had work to do... sianz... 1030pm buay tahan... concuss...

The school is checking our class files on Friday... still not done... everything still in a mess... sigh...

I waited more than 4 hours today for someone to have dinner... in the end she "fly me areoplane"... sobs... cun blame her lah... she realli busy... but cun help feeling dejected...

Now staring at the stacks of compos yet to be marked at home... absolutely no mood...

I need my holiday...

End Of ICT

ICT is over... somehow I dun realli feel happy (which is usually wat people will feel when completed ICT)... coz I abit 舍不得 my brudders... plus the thought of going back to work & all the piled up marking juz turns me off... lucky the march 1-week holidays is coming soon... so I at least have something to look forward to...

Finally found a kaki to go Hokkaido... most probably going in June... but everything's not confirmed yet... so fingers crossed... should be going down to NATAS travel fair to find out more info... still trying to find more kakis thou... coz a non-couple 孤男寡女 go abroad is not realli such a great idea... althou she said dun mind lah... but still awkward... but if realli cun find anyone else, then bobian loh... for the sake of Hokkaido...

Juz add on some grumbles... to get it off my chest... the taxi charges are realli atrocious nowadays... the 35% surcharge thingy is ridiculous... I spent more than 100 bucks on cab fares during tis past ICT... the highest fare was when me & my fren living in Yishun called a cab coz it's hard to get one during book-out timing... the meter charges was $30 PLUS a 35% surcharge of $10.50 PLUS the booking fee of $3.50, adding up to a total of $44... $44!!! kaoz... last time u take from one end of sg to the other end oso dun nid tat much... lucky I managed to hitch a ride from those driving on some days... if I had to take cab everyday, then pocket sure burn big hole liao...

ICT (18th to 29th Feb)

Having reservist tis couple of weeks... 1st week passed liao... 1 more week to go...

ICT (In Camp Training) is quite siong, taking into account tat my current fitness level is crap (walk faster abit oso will 喘)... failed my IPPT (physical fitness test) as usual... ended up with muscle aches all over the body... going outfield for 3D2N mission next week... sianz... I get goosebumps juz by thinking abt Lim Chu Kang's "commando" mosquitoes...

However, despite all my complaints, I actually enjoys my ICT... 1stly, it is a 2-week break from work (and we still get paid)... ICT may be physically tiring but at least it is a no-brainer period... we juz nid to follow orders... dun nid to think... "excused brain"...

ICT is oso a rare chance to catch up with old frenz/platoon mates... the "brotherly bond" juz sort of came back when we are in camp... all the reminiscing... all the memories... the feeling of nolstagia... the good old days...

There is oso a great sense of "freedom"... tis may sound ironic for a place like the army camp... but wat i mean is... I feel uninhibited and relaxed around the guys... I can do things like crack dirty jokes & scold vulgarities w/o concerns... in fact I scolded more vulgarities in the last five days than the last ten years combined... in civillian life, there's always many factors like image & basic courtesy to take into consideration...

When a person feels too uninhibited, he will tend to do crazy things... juz like the case when people go on overseas holiday... they will tend to do things they dun usually do on home soil... ICT seems to have the same effect on me as well...

I was having supper the other nite after my book out... there's tis bunch of teenagers at the other table... one of the gals was wearing a top tat's so revealing tat it's realli 放半粒 in bookie terms... my eyes kept getting drawn to her assets during the course of my supper... it's normal for a guy to look, afterall I'm a hot-blooded young male... plus I am lecherous by nature (no secret abt tat point)... but I'm usually discreet to avoid being rude & disrespectful (I respect females, A LOT)... but tat nite, I was literally STARING, most of the time... tink being confined in an army camp w/o gals the whole day caused me to "xiao cong nao" (hokkien, meaning sperm level too high reach the brain)... oops... sorry... din mean to sound vulgar here... the army effect haven't wore off yet...

In the end, I even went up to 搭讪 & got her number... when's the last time I did such thing? maybe 6, 7 years ago? tink i realli crazy liao... gotta snap out of it soon...

CNY Summary

3 nites of overnite mahjong... overall no win no lose... wat a waste of time & energy... should have stayed home & enjoy my sleep beta... but at least got to mit up with frenz & chat...

I almost totally "siam" the 拜年 part for CNY... except when going frenz' places... din visit any relatives... my mum did all the 拜年ing alone tis year... my dad working & me "siam"ing...

Watched two movies... Kungfu Dunk & Ah Long Pte Ltd... Kungfu Dunk is an "act cool" show... not bad... some action, some comedy... dun expect much of a story/plot coz it's a comedy... I din really like Ah Long... jokes quite lame, crappy storyline, lousy acting... warning: if u dun understand Cantonese, DO NOT watch tis show...

At first intended to watch CJ7 as well... but reviews (from my frenz) were really BAD... 10 out of 10 said the show is disappointing... some even tink it's crap... all agreed that it's the worst Stephen Chow movie ever... so I gave up the idea of watching... din wana spoil my impression of Stephen Chow...

Waiting for 10000 BC to open... hope it's not another disappointment like the CNY movies... I'll keep my expectations low tis time...

刚在网上看到“陈凤玲”改名成“陈靓萱”的新闻。“陈风玲”已算是一个家喻户晓的名字，改名难免让我觉得有点儿多此一举，甚至可能弄巧成拙，必须让观众重新认识她。

不久前有个朋友去给一个叫什么“方居士”的“大师”算名字，结果真的去改了名，而且对这位“大师”说过的话深信不疑。名字是父母亲给孩子取的，意义自然非凡。去听信一个“外人”的话而改名字，对我来说似乎是对父母有欠尊重，除非是父母要你改的。

之前到中国旅游，途经月老庙，也顺道进去拜了拜。里面也有个“大师”，“赠”了我们一人一道符，不过当他盯着我的钱包，有点儿强迫性地要我们“捐钱”时，“大师”的风范荡然无存，我心中甚至浮现出“江湖术士”四个字。他给的符，说什么要我们放在枕头底下三十天，说什么能帮助姻缘，我回到新加坡连碰都没碰过。我无意冒犯神明，我信庙里的神，我只是不信庙里的人。

我从小就对奇门遁甲、紫薇斗数之类的东西有兴趣，只不过我一直是抱着“信而不迷”的态度。我绝对不会去做一些试图“改命”的事，因为我认为不管是哪个“大师”，无论真假，无论多厉害，都没有办法完全理解宇宙中的奥秘，并有能力掌握或改变一个人的命运。他们只不过是根据各自“有限”的智慧和见解，来试图改变命运。可是谁能证明你的命真的改变了？谁又能保证结果是变好，而不是变得更糟呢？

刚吃了一顿超难吃的煮炒。。。打得还是有名的香港街的招牌。。。西北肚懒。。。

校方今天宣布食堂今后不准售卖煎炸食物。。。晴天霹雳。。。

我老爸提议说三月假期全家人一起去中国九寨沟旅游。。。我当然是举双手赞成。。。但我老妈却坚决反对。。。虽然她反对是预料之中的事，但难免还是觉得失望。。。毕竟，一生之中一家人没有一起出过国旅行，对我来说是一种遗憾。。。

1st Day Of School & My Butt-Shaking Favourite Student

Ok… school started today… onli got to see one out of the three classes I am teaching tis year… P4’s bottom class… as usual expected lots of discipline problems… but the kids are so damn cute loh… makes me 不忍心scold them… jialat liao… tink they will ride over my head beri soon…

The most notorious student in my class is oso the cutest… he’s beri naughty (to the extent of being weird) but at the same time extremely cute (one of the cutest in school)… the things he do realli makes me laugh, puts me in a dilemma whether to punish him anot… today onli first day of school, 1st time he sees me, got punished by me to stand up for talking non-stop… then he got punished further by my HOD because he was SHAKING HIS BUTT in the full view of the entire hall while standing up… hahaha… the HOD got him to stand on stage instead… and while my HOD was toking, he was still twitching & fidgeting on stage… then he lost his balance & fell flat on his butt… haha…

As we were going back to class from the hall, he actually came over to me, showed me a sibei 可怜 look… and said “Sorry teacher… I din mean to do it.” Aiyo… my heart totally melt sia… felt maybe he’s not as bad as everybody tinks… I told him “It’s ok… juz dun do it again next time… when people are toking on stage, muz be quiet blah blah blah…”

Then…

He started doing his BUTT-SHAKING DANCE again… hahaha… realli made me 哭笑不得…

In class… 1st day so no teaching… anyway came back from hall onli left 15min… so told the students about some admin stuff (wat books nid to buy, collect $ etc)…

Then…

My “favourite student’s” handphone rang… juz as I was about to begin scolding him for not turning off his handphone in the classroom, he answered his phone in a beri towkay posture (like those type beri busy doing big business) & said VERY LOUDLY “Ma ! Chinese teacher in class lah !” & hung up the phone… the whole class burst into laughter… alamak… how to be angry at him? I nv laugh until stomach cramp oredi good liao…

But many of my colleagues were warning me… he’s those type 人见人爱 but only when u are NOT TEACHING him… all the teachers who’ve taught him before, from P1 to P3, all taboleh tahan him… so I am getting mentally prepared…

But to be fair… his butt-shaking dance is realli cute & funny… haha… so maybe I’ll allow him to do it in class… oops…

1stly wish all a HAPPY new year… u should have gotten lots of new year greetings by now… wat wealth, prosperity, luck blah blah blah… so I’ll juz cut it short… most impt is to be HAPPY…

Went thru many of my frenz’ blogs… most would blog about their past year achievements… new year resolutions… plans for 2008… makes me tink abt wat I should blog…

Past year achievements?

Well… can’t realli call them achievements… coz I’m a person who din “achieve” much my entire life… haha… let me see… I graduated from NIE & became a “real” teacher (though there’s still the “confirmation” period to survive)… went to Penang, Genting & China for holidays… six hiking/trekking expeditions… got to know quite a num of new frenz/acquaintances…

New year resolutions?

None… not my style to set any… I’ll juz take things one step at a time…

Plans for 2008?

Get married? Hahaha… Nah… No big plans in mind at the moment… I seriously do hope to be able to go Hokkaido soon… SERIOUSLY…

Merry Xmas everyone ! Hopefully everyone of u had a great xmas tis year… I tink everybody loves xmas except teachers, coz it signifies the ending of the holidays for us… sianz…

I always dread the festive season coz it’s a season of SPENDING… xmas presents, dinners, parties… all cost $$$... plus the shrewd businessmen always grab tis chance to have a price hike… damn…

“Burnt” 500+ dollars on xmas eve dinner yesterday… alamak… enuff to last me for about 2 months (food expenses)… yet can spend tat much on ONE meal… the horror of xmas…

Had a little tiff with my fren yest after dinner… coz she was suggesting we go to join in the countdown somewhere in the city area… and I rejected the idea coz 1stly, the crowd was atrocious… and 2ndly, my fren was dressed “too exposed” for the occasion… those of u who had been to countdown parties should understand… gals are bound to 吃大亏 during such occasions… u should see the num of guys (esp those foreign workers) who attended the countdowns juz to have a “free grab” at the gals… not to mention tat my fren was dressed in mini skirt & the straps on her spaghetti strap were constantly slipping off (nose bleed)…

And she actually blamed me for refusing to go along with her idea… so much for trying to be considerate… I still had to end up coaxing her and apologizing… but hey, am I at fault? Haiz… 男人的悲哀… no matter wat, it’s ALWAYS our fault…

Well… everything turned out well in the end… I can never stay in an argument for long… actually it’s hard to get me into an argument in the 1st place… unless it’s my mum… haha…

Outdated Updates (Oxymoron)

I’m back… ya ya… I know many of u are nagging at me why come back liao nv blog, where are my china photos blah blah blah… 我也是逼不得已的… been busy since I came back (no joke, my holiday schedule is more packed than my working schedule hahaha)… and I haven’t got the photos from the rest yet (getting from them at post-xmas dinner) so u’ll have to wait a while longer…

Today finally 在百忙之中 find a chance to post some updates… like I mentioned, busy tis holiday coz I basically try to make my schedule as packed as possible (been planning way before holiday started, during office hours oops)… nowadays holidays are so precious once u started working so I dun wish to waste it sleeping or rotting at home like I used to…

Some things I did… sorry not in chronological order (coz I’m not the type tat will record down wat I did & my memory is failing me)…

Yesterday I org a gathering for my fellow JSPS practicum trainees at plaza sg… long time no see liao (since end of practicum)… so I figured we shld mit up before school starts… so I took the initiative to org a dinner outing… I hate the feeling where u move on to the next phase of life, know new people & then lose contact with previous frenz… juz becoz noone is willing to make the effort to keep in contact… had dinner at swensen’s & coffee at starbucks… tok quite a lot, esp abt previous students & recent happenings in JSPS… it’s nice to see long-lost frenz once in a while…

I went to China & came back last Monday… not a bad trip but mainly becoz we had an excellent tour guide… now tat I’ve cooled down from the overseas mood & tink back, actually the trip would have been quite boring if not for the interesting & enriching explanations of the tour guide… hey I’m not one who would praise another person easily, esp another guy but he’s EXCELLENT… the trip turned out to be more like an educational & cultural experience… I learned many things, esp abt Chinese history & origins but it was a lesson I enjoyed… many things to buy in China, the things are cheap so would have expected to spend not much but on the contrary, the dirt-cheap prices (compared to sg) makes people spend w/o much hesitation… in the end exceeded budget (which is rare for me)… the tour package cost 700+ (food & lodging included), total I spent adds up to near 1500, which means I spent nearly another 700 on buying stuff… and mind u, it’s sg dollars not rmb… gosh wat have I done? More details on the trip once the photos are ready… if u cun wait, go to shuyu’s blog on my side links… her photos are up liao…

Went for my monthly poly gathering as well… at tis place called Hey Hey Hotpot at paradiz centre… under Pei Ling’s heavy recommendation… she insisted we must spend up to $50 per person to show our support… I wondered why… go there then know the place is opened by Cao Guohui… and he’s the REASON why she so supportive… kaoz… 1st time I hear someone dun like the restaurant to give away FREE dishes (promotion or something) becoz she scared the boss lose money… the food is juz OK… (oh no, Pei Ling’s going to kill me for saying that)… but can give it a try & show your support (esp if u’re a Terence Cao fan)…

Many people getting married recently (either tis month or next year)… TOO MANY… cousins, frenz, colleagues, ex-gfs (duh)… I’m happy for them of course… & I dun mind paying for the “pink bombs”… but I cun help having a little of the “sour grapes” feeling… haiz… 何时轮到我？haha… pls pardon me… I’m juz a little boliao (想太多)… on one hand, I always hope to get married early but on the other hand, I am VERY CLEAR tat I’m not ready to settle down yet… so these contradicting thoughts can cause me to 胡思乱想 & have mood swings at times… scorpio, multiple & split personalities, self-contradictory… tat’s me…

9) “Escape” RT again… by rite fail IPPT have to go for remedial training but I siam again tis year… tink the army side tink I still studying… hahaha

PSLE "Time-Wasting" Week

This week no school… PSLE marking week… down for recorder duty at Ai Tong School… today 1st day… verdict… total waste of time… waiting time + sleeping time + eating time > working time… reported at 1130am, ended at 5pm… went thru less than ten papers… which could easily be completed in ten minutes… the rest of the time is spent WAITING, sleeping while WAITING plus the lunch & tea break… still have 3 more days to go… I dun realli mind not having anything to do & getting salary for nothing, unlike a fren of mine (*hint hint*)… but the timing is sucky lah… 8 to 5 for the next 2 days… whole day wasted…

Juz back from bishan… went to shop around coz the school is around the area… bought a 26-inch LCD TV for my room (my mum is taking over my current 14-inch, so now every member of my family has our own personal tv set)… no more fighting over which channel to watch (actually juz btw my dad & my mum, I always have my own PRIVATE tv set… hahaha)… haiz… tink I realli enjoying life abit too much… there goes my plan to save up again… sobs…

Back To "Normal"

Went for my scheduled IPPT yesterday morning at Khatib Camp… reached the place too late… the PTIs were cleaning up the place when I arrived… in-pro had closed so I would have to book another date and go again…

Time was early so took a walk around Yishun… went past many familiar places… sense of nostalgia… many memories here…

She called… been many days since I heard from her… since the incident… tok cock sing song “as usual”… she said she hungry so asked her to join me for breakfast… she looked “normal”… at least tat’s wat I want to believe…

Honestly speaking, I do still feel slightly awkward when I am with her... she is more 大方than me… actually I realli admire her for being able to behave like nothing ever happened… I tried my best but… … …

For now… we are back to “normal” again… at least for now…

Juz Another Update

Went to pay the balance for the China trip yest… so everything is confirmed liao… Su San wun be joining us, due to personal issues… too bad…

Ate at tis restaurant called “味之楼”located at Mosque Street… the food is good… one of the best restaurant food I’ve tried in recent years… guess I’ll become one of their regulars soon if they keep up the standard… for those of u interested to know more, Shuyu did a review on her blog… u can link to her blog from my side links… poly gang, pls try not to go yet… I’ll bring u all there next time when it’s my turn to org outing (which should be Jan)…

There were some other makan places I tried… but sad to say, they are not realli worth mentioning… so I shall not waste my time…

Watched a couple of movies recently… “Shoot Em’ Up” & “Resident Evil 3: Extinction”…

“Shoot Em’ Up” was quite a cool movie… lots of gunfight sequences tat will make John Woo pale in comparison… the movie is quite 夸张 (one hero vs dozens of gunmen, killing with carrots etc)… sex & violence is the selling point here (but then again, isn’t tat the case for most movies?)… it’s a typical guy movie… shooting down enemies while having sex… woo… kinky…

“Resident Evil 3: Extinction” was a disappointment… especially if u are a Resident Evil game series fan… it totally sux compared to 1 & 2, maybe due to the fact tat 1 & 2 were partly based on the game’s storyline… while 3 gave me the impression tat the producers were juz trying to “force” a sequel to the installment… the ending was crappy too, I suspect they are trying to leave room for another sequel or it’s a realli bad finale… honestly, they should juz stop here… enough is enough… stop spoiling the franchise’s image…

Fatherly Feeling?

Tired… went Concourse today to buy presents for the coming children’s day… tink I abit cheapskate… went for all the cheap bulk items… in the end spent onli abt 30 plus dollars… on budget lah… cun blame me… have to save up money again… anyway it’s the thought tat counts (but honestly, the thought is not realli there coz I din realli feel like giving presents… it’s juz tat they keep pestering me… dun wana disappoint them)…

Anyway… getting out of point here… tat’s not wat I wana tok abt in tis post…

I did something tat’s beri “not me” yesterday… I saw 3 kids selling newspapers (some 健康日报 or something) at the hawker center while having breakfast… they were dressed in quite old (& dirty-looking, colour faded) clothes… the youngest one approached me and said “买啦，支持一下啦”… he looks like still nursery age, at most P1… a sense of sympathy & pity rose in my heart… working at such a young age… ? ya hor… why ah? My paranoia level started to rise… is SOMEONE making use of these kids to sell newspapers? For ur info, Singapore is quite strict against child labour… worse still, are these kids being ABUSED? Do they have enough food? Are they beaten if they cun finish selling the newspapers? Tink I watched too much drama liao… but at tat moment in time, I realli worry for the kids… so guess wat I did?

I FOLLOWED THEM…

Found them walking around the neighbourhood… selling their newspapers at the hawker center… then the coffeeshops around… trying to find the SOMEONE who’s behind the scene… I mean, these kids are too young to be roaming around… there must be an adult telling them wat to do… so I kept following them…

FOR MORE THAN AN HOUR…

Finally… I found them meeting a man at the carpark… the man was taking out newspapers from his lorry for them to sell… trying to find out more, I posed as a passerby and purposely walked past them to hear wat they were saying… well… one of the kids called the man “pa”… and the kids were actually smiling when toking to the man… so I assumed tat they were not “abused” as I tot… tink I realli tink too much liao… anyway a sigh of relief to see tat they’re ok…

Anyway, I still sympathise with them lah… so young… when other kids were playing & enjoying life, they oredi started working… actually, I’m beri against child labour… I did for a moment tot of reporting the matter to the police… but then again, the family must be in real financial difficulties… I dun wana end up causing the kids to be separated from their parents or breaking up a family in the process… and most imptly, the kids looked happy… so I decided not to pursue the matter in the end… I ended up buying a newspaper from each of them at different locations (they were going around)… so I got 3 in total… nv read thou coz it’s about health issues, which is not realli my cup of tea…

Why did I behave in tat manner yesterday? It’s juz so “not me”… I am a super bochup guy… and honestly speaking, my sense of sympathy is usually low… u can even describe me as cold and unfeeling in some aspects… well… I was brought up & “trained” tat way… being kpo & meddling in other ppl’s business is definitely not my style…

Maybe… I’m tinking… juz maybe… subconsciously, being a teacher & facing kids almost everyday has increased my emotional bond with kids… maybe I am starting to care more abt them… worrying abt them like a parent… maybe tis is wat a father feels like… alamak… lidat no good ah… if realli the case, then next time I realli become a father, then the feeling will not 新鲜 le…

Upgrading In Progress

Many days nv blog… coz my house undergoing upgrading… lots of drilling going on… damn noisy… amount of dust generated is atrocious… I have been extremely “hardworking” lately, staying in school until around 430pm to 6pm everyday… well, actually I’m juz trying to avoid reaching home b4 the construction workers stop work at around 5pm…

For those of u who nv experienced upgrading before (I mean inside the house, not those lift upgrades), I can tell u… it’s a total hassle… my whole family has to squeeze into one bedroom (mine) to sleep at nite… and mind u, all our stuff are inside (2 wardrobes, bookshelf, study table, tv, sewing machine and lots of boxes containing our belongings) becoz the other rooms are all affected by the upgrading… so my room became the “storeroom”… to put it simply, it’s juz like suddenly being reduced to staying in an one-room flat…

Went NATAS travel fair today… wanted to research on possible holiday destinations, prices & packages… but we were tempted by the promotional packages… worried that we may not get the promo prices after the fair… the dates we want may run out… blah blah blah… end-result is…

Since I’m on a row, might as well make it a hat-trick of posts…

(NOT in chronological order)

Genting trip is confirmed… from 7th to 9th September… paid $172 per pax, inclusive of bus tix & two nites’ lodging at Resort Hotel… abit exp coz it’s considered peak period during the weekends… but din realli care… juz wana go abroad for the holiday…

Got a bagful of presents for teachers’ day… ranging from small paper messages to greeting cards… from pens to mugs to towels… they dun cost much (I know becoz most of them still have the price tags on) but it’s realli the thought tat counts…

Announcing… I have juz exceeded the count of 50 for “love letters” received from students… by “love letters”, I mean those containing the words “我爱你”… one gal even writes a letter EVERYTIME I get realli angry with the class… it will say something like “老师，不要生气，要开心，我爱你。”… so sweet… *ahem* dun misunderstand wor… I am not a paedophile… I juz find the whole gesture beri heart-warming…

I won a travel cooker in the lucky draw during my school’s teachers’ day dinner… it requires a power outlet and takes 15 minutes to boil a mess tin of water (I tested) so not realli useful when travelling… maybe I’ll use it to cook instant noodles in the staff room…

Brought my parents to watch the movie 881… been a while since we watched a movie together… we din realli like it, unfortunately, despite all the hype & great reviews about the movie… but the songs are quite nice… thinking of getting the soundtrack but my favourite song “十二莲花” is not inside… I’m not going to do a movie review here… decide for yourself if u wana watch it (if u haven’t)… but one thing’s for sure… if u dun understand Hokkien, forget it…

Holiday still have to go back school tmr… oops… juz passed 12 midnite so it’s today… have some filming to do… sai-gang (sh*t-job)… have to shoot a video to promote core values to students… then Tuesday have to go some toopid course… from 830am to 530am… kaoz… so bloody long… whole day burn liao… waste my holiday… they should set a law saying teachers cannot be “touched” during holidays… holiday still have to work, no wonder turnover rate so high… *grumble grumble*

Yesterday went to the zoo AGAIN… my 3rd time tis year… nothing much changed since my last visit… and yesterday’s weather quite warm & stuffy… most of the animals were nuah-ing becoz of the heat… so the trip turned out abit boring… then it started to rain in the late afternoon… so our trip ended prematurely…

After tat, went bishan J8 watch movie… at 1st wana watch Ratatouille but only left seats 2nd row from the front… so I suggested watching 1408…

I had such high expectations of the show… it was based on the story by Stephen King… I realli enjoyed Stephen King’s books… and Samuel L. Jackson is in the show… his shows are USUALLY not bad… the idea of watching a horror movie during the seventh month… cool… but after watching the movie, it turned out to be…

TOTAL CRAP

I dun even want to waste my time describing how bad the show is… if u are thinking about watching the show, juz heed my advice – DON”T, it’s an absolute waste of time & money… juz read the book…

Start Of Holiday... Start Of Blogging

Just realized I onli blogged once for the entire month of August… the previous post is juz a video so dun realli count… actually had a lot of things wana blog but been too busy… even when free, too tired-out liao… now is September one-week holiday (Yay!) so finally have some time for updates…

从何说起呢？Ok… let’s start from the CA… my students juz had their CA2 tests… 13 out of 30 of my P3 kids failed… which is normal for the class except tat a few students’ grades fluctuate drastically… a few got HALF their normal grades while a few others got DOUBLE their norm… conclusion: they most probably guessed their way thru paper 2, so it’s a matter of luck what their grades are…

As for my three P5 students, all 3 failed with scores of 24, 26 & 28 out of 100 respectively… and two of them actually IMPROVED… they previously scored 29, 24 & 20 for their SA1… for your info, they are the “cream of the crop” of the P5 merged stream… one of them actually THINKS he’s not Chinese, hates Chinese and refuses to speak in Chinese… although he’s realli 100% pure Chinese… hmm… weird…

Pls dun get the wrong idea that I dun care that my students failed… I DO care… it’s juz tat their results are WITHIN EXPECTATIONS… and honestly speaking, I definitely care more about their results than some of the students themselves… obviously, a lot of kids nowadays dun give a sh*t about the exams…

Me: Aiyo… exam why nv bring pencil box?

Student A: Exam need pencil box de meh?

And to rub salt into the wound, my P3 kid who got the LOWEST grade in class is actually HAPPY that he got only 7/50… he even went around boasting about it… duh…

Movie Review - Secret

Watched the movie “Secret” yesterday… din really intend to watch the show in the 1st place… my fren asked me to watch with her a few days back but I rejected her with a “I’m not a Jay Chou fan.”… then yesterday NIE frenz’ gathering… dinner then go movie… even “quarreled” with the previous fren when I told her abt it… she’s quite angry… oops…

Well… the show was beta than I tot… I like the lovey-dovey parts… have “初恋的感觉”… brings back memories… portrayed young student couple’s r/s quite well, I tink… conversations that sometimes sound lame & corny but at the same time, so sweet & romantic… silly little actions… trying to make your partner jealous… ahhh… those were the days…

But I din really like the twist at the end thou… the whole time travel thingy… to me, love stories are the most touching when u can actually relate to them… the first half of the show managed to do tat… but when they try to throw in the fantasy factor in the second half of the show, it’s sort of like splashing a bucket of cold water in your face and telling u “Hey… wake up, it’s juz a movie… it’s not real”… sometimes, some stories/shows should juz keep it simple… trying too hard to add twists & plots to increase the “entertainment value” of the movie can end up spoiling the whole thing…

Overall, I still tink the show is quite good lah… above average… without the Jay Chou factor… hahaha… u know one of the reasons why I din want to watch tis show in the beginning? I was turned off by the thought that a movie-viewing session could turn out to become like a fan club gathering… a lot of people (esp gals) flocking to watch the show because of Jay Chou… there’s one hard-core Jay Chou fan sitting behind us yesterday… she giggled and laughed at almost every line Jay Chou said at the 1st half of the show (and some parts aren’t even supposed to be funny)… and she cried like someone close to her died near the end of the show… these are the type of people who realli spoils your mood during a movie… so f**king irritating… lucky there’s onli one such case in the cinema yesterday… if have more, tink I’ll leave in the middle or shout “Shut up!”… hmm… then again, I wouldn’t shout at a gal… so tink I’ll juz leave… hahaha…

I’m watching the movie AGAIN tmr… no lah… dun misunderstand… it’s not THAT good… I juz feel 过意不去 for rejecting my fren earlier and then later going to watch with other frenz… so I’m 陪ing her tmr… and it’s my treat… haiz… pocket burn hole again… sobs…

Went to tis restaurant on Tuesday… Tao’s Restaurant… or 陶餐厅 shld sound more familiar to u… last time have advertisement on tv b4… it’s at selegie paradiz centre… the food is realli not bad so I’m recommending to u all here…

Juz for ur info… their menu is a standard 7-course dinner (meaning u go in eat dinner MUST have 7 items)… inclusive of 3 starters (fixed), 1 salad, 1 soup, 1 main entrée, 1 dessert & 1 drink (now tat I count, actually have 8 items, maybe they dun count the drink)… cost per person is $34 inclusive of tax…

Starter: Sorbet

Tip - Eat it when still hot (spread on bread or juz eat it - ur choice), cold le not nice

The bread is good & it's free-flow, but dun eat too much coz u will be stuffed.

Starter: Grilled Mushroom

I know, two slices of mushroom stalk looks pathetic... but it tastes good.

Soup: Pumpkin Soup

The container so cute...

Abit too sweet... but still not bad...

Average... lobster is realli "baby"... but pasta quite alot lah...

Nice... beri flavourful & tender... but quite fatty so not recommended for ladies on diet...

Tender... strong herb taste... but I dun like the plate of sauce lah... it's mint...

Main Entree: Baked Flounder With Cheese
My order... flounder is a fish (in case u din know)... fish beri juicy and soft... cheese not overwhelming... good...

The Drinks
From Left: Apple, Mallow, Peach
Not your normal fruit tea... all have flowers inside... and the flowery taste actually stronger than the fruits... so more like flower tea... some ppl will like it, some ppl dun... ok for me...

Dessert: Yangshen Poached Pear
Introducing the pear tat dun taste like a pear... and dun taste like a dessert either...
Verdict - dun order

Dessert: Yam Ice Cream
Overwhelming taste of yam... no doubt it's YAM ice cream... I hate it...
Must-have for yam lovers

Dessert: Brulee
Not sure if I got the spelling correct... tis is not bad... I tink for Tao's restaurant, the weakest part is their desserts... nothing realli fantastic...

Dessert: Black Sesame Pudding
My order... average... can taste the sesame... but i dun like the condensed milk at the top... too sweet & "took over" the taste of the sesame pudding below...

Other remarks: The service is quite good... staff is friendly and very "on-the-ball"... they even tell u honestly wat "not to order" on the menu... oh ya... the guy from their tv ad is realli a staff at the restaurant... he's a captain or maybe outlet manager there...

I Hate Polyclinics

Complain complain… I wana complain…

Today accompanied my dad to go polyclinic see doc… coz he went to an optician recently and the optician said there’s some yellow spots in his eye… plus my dad always have problem of “dry eyes”… so decided to go for a detailed eye checkup…

Aiyo… the whole process so time-consuming n frustrating loh… tink abt it oso pek cek… had to queue five times loh… FIVE TIMES… registration must queue… then wait for consultation queue again… collect medicine queue… payment another queue… get referral letter oso queue… took more than 2 hours just to get one tiny bottle of eye drops & a letter… so toopid loh… and from my observations, I tink 2 hours oredi considered fast le (judging by their way of operation)… can get much worse on busy days…

Although the fee is cheaper (just $10.10), I would rather pay much more to go private clinic… save me the hassle & time-wasting…

Ok… have to cut short my post for now… my dad juz bought satay for supper (Yay!)… going to enjoy myself liao… haha… yummy…

Some HAPPY things recently…

1st) Pay increment + bonus + GST rebate… not much but beta than nothing… mai hiam lah… and becoz of tis lump sum, my savings reach my next “target level”… hurray… cun reveal to u how much lah… haha… sensitive issue… now working hard towards next level…

2nd) I am being nominated for monarch or king by my kingdom mates in Utopia Online… for ur info, Utopia Online is an online medieval age war game… I play it becoz it is not time-consuming… u onli nid to log in for 5-10 min to complete whatever u nid to do for the day… not like other online games which wastes a lot of time and makes u a geek by making u spend ur entire day in front of the computer (like Maple Story, and I seriously dun understand why ppl can spend days & nights whacking mushrooms)… however, I humbly rejected the position coz I do not wish to spend too much time on the game… but it feels good to be respected and looked up upon…

3rd) I got to know a Thai-Chinese babe recently… I used the word “babe” so means she’s chio… beri chio in fact… *drooling*… haha… she’s my mum’s fren’s daughter-in-law’s sister… sounds complicated… too bad she’s going back to Thailand tmr… but I got her msn and email liao… hehe… dun misunderstand me wor… I have no ulterior motive de wor… make fren onli mah… improve foreign relations with Thailand somemore… hahaha…

难得can blog abt happy stuff… haha… may seem like some insignificant (read boliao) things to u but hey… I am learning to derive happiness from the little things in life…

Youth Day Post

Today is Youth Day… holiday for schools so no work today… so happy… but the thought of going back sch tmr after a long weekend is juz… duh…

Went to watch Transformers today… nice show… full of non-stop action… great for entertainment… not much of a story but who cares abt the story for tis type of show… juz sit back and enjoy the loads of fighting… brings back childhood memories too… tink it’s the trend nowadays to bring back childhood classics… 1st TMNT, now Transformers… wat next? Mars?? He-Man???

The teachers’ investiture (graduation ceremony) is next wed… have to collect & wear gown somemore… so troublesome… wun feel like going if not for the opportunity to take a day off… at 1st planned to go collect the gown + scroll + transcript tis wed at NIE de… but the principal actually rejected my leave application… WTF? Looks can realli be deceiving sia… he looks like such a nice guy but my frens got f**ked upside-down by him when they went to see him regarding the leave matter… lucky I din go… no wonder the ppl at the top are seldom popular… so fake… act friendly and approachable, then when u realli approach him for some matter, suddenly 翻脸... so horrible… is he a Decepticon?

Haiz… suan le… everytime tok abt school matters always end up in bad mood… aren’t there any happy things worth mentioning abt school? 越想越气。。。

I have a question (or maybe 2)… How do u differentiate between being “friendly & sociable” to being “liberal & open-minded”? How would u react or feel when someone of the opposite sex behaves in an “over-friendly” manner? For most gals, I tink is quite straightforward tat u will feel offended when a guy (bf/hubby not included) gets too touchy or tok abt too private/sensitive/suggestive stuff…

Ok… b4 u misunderstand my purpose for toking abt tis topic, tinking tat I did something to outrage some gal’s modesty… I DID NOT… I am blogging actually to find out abt the other perspective… when a gal behaves in a manner tat borders on the edge of flirtation/seduction, how should the guy react? Take note tat the Q states “on the edge of”, meaning it’s not realli seduction in the sense like stripping in front of the guy, but rather maybe in a subtle or unintentional way…

Ok ok… no point going around in circles… I’ll juz go straight to the point… I got to know tis gal thru a fren… she’s a close fren of my fren and I onli got to know her on a group outing abt 3 months ago… we cun even be considered real friends, maybe juz acquaintances, since we onli know each others’ names and onli meet on our group outings with our common fren…

Ok (too many oks)… now to describe her… as u can guess from the opening part of tis long-winded post, she is very… umm… “friendly”… althou we are not beri close and haven’t known each other for long, she tells me everything under the sun (or in my own words, everything under the skirt)… in our 1st conversation, I oredi knew things like her menses, her cup-size, wat brand/colour of bra/panty she wears (Impt Note: I din ask her hor… she juz told me in the course of our conversation)…

Ok (again)… at first I tot she’s onli beri vocal & direct in her speech… but her behavior even portrayed her “friendliness” further… she would occasionally place her hand on my thigh when toking… when we took neoprint, she hugged my waist with both hands (my other fren, whom I knew longer & much closer, onli hooked my hand)… then got one point when we in the ktv, she said she’s tired and told me “借我靠一下”… I tot she juz meant leaning her head on my arm or shoulder so I din reject… Guess wat she did? She HUGGED me from the back… umm… how to describe… her hands came round from the back to the front around the stomach area (luckily/unluckily not lower… oops)… her whole front was leaning against my back… and to let u have a beta idea of how up close she was getting, her chin was resting against the side of my neck… hope u can imagine…

I was realli stumped at tat moment… my body practically froze… I din dare to move, fearing tat the movement would cause rubbing btw my back and her *cough cough* assets… I am not trying to act virgin here, but having someone u dun know tat well behave so intimately is realli awkward & uncomfortable… *ponders*… ok maybe juz awkward… oops…

Ok (stop it !!!)… b4 tis begins to look like a “bei hiao bai” post, like I’m trying to “hao lian” tat some gal is hitting on me… I have no such intention… and she’s NOT hitting on me… I honestly believe she’s juz realli friendly & sociable… she juz behaves in a manner tat’s not common in Asian society…

Feeling abit luan now coz I’m meeting her again tmr… at a loss of how to behave in a manner tat is considered both polite and appropriate towards her… I mean… I cun juz freeze and “stone” every time she surprises me with her actions… reciprocate with the same treatment? Nah… will make me feel like I’m taking advantage of her… I may be humsup by nature but I do respect women… try to keep a distance? Hmm… will tat make me appear unfriendly and rude?

Haiz… suan le… I’ll juz wait n see how things go tmr… umm… then in the end, tis post turns out to be useless… chey…nv mind lah… juz for me to pour out my confused tots… and for ur entertainment…

End Of Holiday... Start Of Hell... Umm... I Mean Work

School starts tmr… sobs… so sianz… definitely not looking forward to it… haiz… nuah for too long liao… now in permanent holiday mood… hahaha…

Got my timetable on Friday… taking two classes for Chinese, one P3 & one P5… both results KNS so have quite abit of work to do… expect to teach until vomit blood… oso have one P5 PE… and two classes of ART (P5 & P6)…

Beri luan at the moment… my P3 Chinese class no textbook and workbook (coz stock haven’t come yet) so duno do wat for the 1st week… I dun even know who’s in my P5 Chinese class coz they haven’t confirmed the list yet (I’m doing parallel teaching, meaning they’ll take out the weakest students from the class let me teach)… and nobody told us (new teachers) wat to do for subjects we are not familiar with (like PE & ART)…

Asked around for help… but noone realli gave us any constructive ideas… they all said things like “Aiya… 1st week relax lah… no textbook juz do self-intro in class 1st loh… then set classroom rules… familiarize urself with the class 1st…” I know all tis ah… but u cun expect us to spend the whole week not teaching anything ba…

Haiz… suan le… tink I’ll juz relax and let nature takes its own course… 1st week juz take time to settle down, get used to the environment, settle all the admin stuff (laptop, passwords, Edumail etc) and make new frenz… ya… tat’s beri impt… I realized tat if u dun get along well with ur colleagues or dun have close frenz in school, u’re in for a hard time… so beta spend some time mingling around…

Penang Murder

Juz read last nite’s papers… saw tis news article tat some fishermen found a female head floating in the waters of Penang… preliminary autopsy reports say the woman was murdered, then got her head cut off by the murderer and dumped into the sea… gruesome…

My impression from the Penang trip was tat the people were friendly and honest… the place had a homely feel… and security seemed much safer than other parts of Malaysia… nv expected something so horrible to happen juz less than a week of our return… lucky we din end up finding a head in the waters while at the beach… tat would have been such a holiday-spoiler…

Back From Penang... Sianz...

I’m back… with a belly… after 4 days of gorging on food in Penang… haha… the food there is realli cheap and good… char kway teow, hokkien mee, bah kut teh and so much more… may be juz simple common fare but those in Penang are so sedap… in comparison, can tell the food standards in sg sux… juz now I oredi missing Penang food while having dinner liao… sg hawker food juz pales in comparison…

So sianz to be back in sg… esp with the tot of having to start work soon… the next holiday seems so far away… sobs…

Tis afternoon reach home tat time I see my mum so relieved to see me coz I din call home, felt a sense of guilt… partly becoz I made her worried by not calling… but mainly becoz I am not as happy abt my coming back as she is… well… not tat I dun miss my family… I love my parents… it’s juz tat I dun miss Singapore… in fact, I felt so demoralized the moment I alighted the plane at Changi airport…

If any of u tink I’m being disloyal to my country… so be it… I nv liked sg and I’m not going to pretend I do… at least I’m being honest… spare me all the preaching abt patriotism… I dun believe in tat crap… to me, patriotism is not juz abt singing majulah singapura… painting the national flag on ur face during national day dun make u patriotic, it juz makes u look silly…

True patriotism can onli be seen in times of crisis… if u are one tat is willing to throw ur life away to defend the country, I salute u… but then again, saying is one thing, doing is another… how many people can realli practise wat they preach?

Aiyo… paiseh… at 1st wana blog abt my Penang trip one… duno why suddenly turn into something so solemn… haha… maybe becoz too high during last four days, now come back suddenly feel so low… so abit ki siao… I’ll blog more abt the Penang trip details in a few days’ time when I feeling normal again… and maybe post some photos when my frenz send me… I din take much photos on my own camera… stay tuned…

Me... An Art Teacher? It's A "Dream" Come True

Went to Hougang Primary School today… for the SEM meeting… still duno wat classes I am going to teach… dun even have a seat yet… haha… apparently the school has too many staff and too little space… but luckily they are going to convert one of the classrooms into an extra staff room… so things will get beta (hopefully) when school re-opens…

But some things I found out today… my core dept is MT Chinese (definitely)… my non-core dept is IT (oh no… 4got everything liao)… my SEM criterion group is Physical Facilities, my team leader is the OM (meaning I am part of the team in charge of school facilities, building n maintenance)… plus they inform me due to the SURPLUS of Chinese teachers in the school (1st time hearing tis, I always tot ALL schools lack Chinese teachers), I will most likely be required to teach PE, health education, music and art as well… hahaha…

Kaoz… imagine a super unfit person (like me) teaching PE… imagine someone with extremely unhealthy lifestyle (me again) teaching health education… imagine a tone-deaf (who else?) teaching music… imagine me teaching art… ME… ART… WAHAHAHA… greatest joke of the century…
